Medical tourists visiting Latvia mostly choose diagnostics and dental services

Foreign medical tourists visiting Latvia to undergo treatment generally opt for various diagnostics and dental services, the president of the Latvian Medical Export Association Olafs Slutins said in an interview with the newspaper Diena.

He explained that visitors prefer these services because they are most easily paired with traditional tourism. ”If more extensive treatment is necessary, then we are competing with the so-called super countries of medical tourism,” he added.

Tourists visiting Latvia for medical services also commonly select services in the fields of phlebology, ophthalmology, traumatology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, dermatology, and infertility treatment. Oncology is another field with a notable rise in various treatments and services.

According to Slutins, for local clinics which aim to work with foreigners, it is most useful to specialise in a specific range of services, for instance, the Sigulda Hospital, which offers stomach reduction operations. Slutins also named virotherapy as a successful medical field in Latvian export services.
